Security!!!

I feel anxious every day walking into the building at 180 N. LaSalle. From my blue line stop it is closer to come in the side door. There is security at both entrances. At the side entrance though, there is always one guard that you have to walk directly past to enter the building. At the main entrance they are located at a desk, which is much easier to avoid and causes no such social dilemma.

Do I greet the security guard? There is always this awkward pressure. This feeling of obligation to shout out "Good morning!" with a big smile. If I make eye contact they will usually beat me to the punch and say something. Maybe my shyness is because I haven't had coffee yet. I'm not yet ready to face the social world. Maybe after a couple cups of coffee I could even come back down for a chat about the weather and the dead body found in the river this morning.

About half the time I'll just end up taking the extra minute to go to the main entrance. It leaves me with a stubborn, but satisfied feeling. I beat the system! I didn't have to say hello to anyone or feel guilty about not saying hello to them. I am ready for the day. I am a champion!!!!
